Carn Silver is a small, home based silversmithing craft business, located in the far end of the UK; Penwith in Cornwall.
I first started to be interested in silver smithing when I attended a basic Adult Education course in the late 70’s. This became 2 years study, working through the intermediate and advanced courses. Work commitments and a growing family meant I could only dabble, with limited tools and space. But a lot of research went on.
So here I am now; – retired, with time and space more than available.
In my home workshop, I have been experimenting, relearning skills, making (and selling) my own pieces for 7 years. The original idea is often tweaked and goes through a number of changes to provide the basis for a finished product in silver or gold.
All of the pieces I make are one off. There may be similarities to other pieces, but as each is handmade and not by machine, there will always be differences. So whatever piece is worn, it is guaranteed to be unique.
All metal is sourced responsibly from accredited sources.
My inspiration? a lot of the pieces made have been influenced by what I’ve seen elsewhere, particularly if it involves developing my skill levels. I enjoy thinking through the stages and processes that brings a piece together and then carrying them out.
